By what stick do we measure the moral and spiritual health of our nation?

Spiritual Health
Uh Yeah! asked:

I’m curious - by what standard do we as a nation measure our moral, ethical or spiritual health? Is it the lack of intellectual advancement? The gain in power by the religious right? Or are there different sticks for different ideologies and different social groups?

Are we healthy, kind of healthy or completely lacking in health? Or is there no stick at all?
RA: I am very familiar with other nations of this world. But, I’m talking the one I live in: The US.
